Pickleball origins

Pickleball was created in 1965 and its popularity spread across the United States throughout the 1970s and 1980s. It attracted players of all ages due to its accessibility, ease of learning, and ability to accommodate various skill levels. By the 1990s, it had gained recognition as a legitimate sport, with organised tournaments and dedicated facilities. Today, it is enjoyed by millions of people around the world. It is played in community centers, parks, schools, and dedicated courts, attracting players of all ages, including both recreational enthusiasts and competitive athletes.

Rules

  • Pickleball is played on a court that resembles a badminton court, measuring 20 feet wide and 44 feet long.
  • It includes the non-volley zone, also known as the kitchen, which is a seven-foot area on each side of the net where players are not allowed to volley the ball.
  • Points can only be scored by the servers. Servers cannot serve and volley like in Tennis.
